Things To Note When Choosing Wedding Favors

October 8th, 2010

If you are getting married anytime soon, chances are you are on the wedding planning high now. You feel that you don’t have enough time to attend to all the little details that are needed in your wedding. You so want to give the grand task of wedding coordination to a professional. But somehow, you feel hesitant in giving up the reins when it is THE most important day of your life that you’re talking about. As a result, you are bombarded with the huge task of choosing from myriad of wedding dresses, wedding favors and wedding cakes, among others. You even have to concern yourself with getting the best bridesmaid dress designs just so your entourage will look as grand as you.

Among the most intricate tasks in wedding planning is choosing your wedding favors. These items are not simply little things that you feel obliged to give out to your guests. Above anything else, wedding favors are a memorabilia. Long after the wedding ceremony is over, these small things will be the sole reminder of this momentous affair in your life. As such, it is but proper that you choose your wedding favors properly. Here are some tips.

1. Inscriptions?

Because wedding favors are memoirs, they should bear the name of the couple and the date and venue of the wedding. Otherwise, they would just demote themselves to one of those generic figurines sold in the department stores. So when choosing your wedding favors, go for those that have space for your names. Go for those that will shout what you and your groom are most proud about – your wedding day.

2. Decorative Appeal

More often than not, wedding favors will end up in the cupboards or any other decorative space in the homes of your guests. Therefore, it is but proper to choose favors that would look pleasing in the eyes. Choose those items that your guests will feel proud to have in their homes.

3. Durability

Of course, nobody wants wedding favors that get broken even before they are taken out of the wedding venue. So when choosing, go for those that will last months – and even years! After all, they are a memorabilia and the only role for them to carry out is the role to stay “alive” and usable for a very long, long time.

4. Uniqueness

Another important factor to consider when choosing wedding favors is uniqueness. These items should be unique enough that they are able to represent your (and your groom’s) interest. For instance, if both of you are beach bums, then shells and miniature slippers would prove to be appropriate wedding favors.

5. Usefulness

While wedding favors are primarily used as decorations, it doesn’t hurt to go beyond normal expectations. Therefore, it would be better to choose favors that can be used by your guests. For instance, pens, paperweights and letter openers would be practical. They are more than just fine stuff; they are also usable at the office. Your guests will be glad to have them as wedding favors.

Emergency Ideas For Wedding Favors

October 5th, 2010

As bad as it may sound, sometimes, things do not really go your way. Sometimes, things do not come out according to plan. This is especially stressful and nerve-racking when this happens during your wedding.

What do you do when days before the big day, your supplier for your wedding favors tells you that they cannot deliver your orders on time? Or worse, what would you do if upon follow-up, you get the response: “I’m sorry madam, but I’m afraid that we don’t have a record of your order.” Of course, your initial reaction would be to burst into flames. While it is rational to have an emotional outburst and probably file an official complaint to the representative that has handled you, there’s another side of this story that needs to be taken care of as well, and fast!

Yes, you need to have a backup plan. You need to come up with emergency wedding favors! Nobody would blame you if you don’t have wedding favors to distribute during your big day but you definitely would not want this possibility to even surface. Thus, you need to gather yourself and be in the game of planning again — this time, focusing on wedding favors.

Here are a few ideas:

DVD’s

This is something that is personalized and easy to come by. You can distribute DVD copies of the highlights of your life as a couple. Of course, you can also put in baby pictures of you and your groom, and some basic wedding details, such as the venue, date. Giving DVD’s as wedding favors is also convenient. You don’t even have to contact a professional to reproduce them. As long as you have a laptop, some blank DVD’s and a printer, you’re good to go. This type of wedding keepsake is truly a do-it-yourself item.

Scented Candles

Yes, you may rant at how common and how ordinary scented candles as wedding favors are. However, if you just put in a dash of creativity into these candles, then it would look like these simple items were not really your second choice after all. You can even buy these little babies in bulk in your favorite department store so you don’t have to deal with another supplier. After which, you can hire the services of a candle expert so he/she can then put a creative touch into these. In a matter of days, these common mall displays will cease to become ordinary and will be transformed into great wedding favors.

Porcelain Figurines

There are little shops in the malls that sell cute figurines of various designs — bride-and-groom, dolphins, cakes, and flowers. Name it, they have it. All you have to do is pick a design and print little tags. These tags would then bear your names (yours and your husband’s, of course) and the date of your wedding. Viola, you have come up with fast but effective wedding favors!

Yes, it would have been better if things ran according to plan so you don’t have to be forced to deal with an emergency situation. But, if bad luck comes to you, then don’t fret. You use that opportunity to turn things around and make the most out of the situation, especially if that happens on the most important day of your life, your wedding day!
